The Caddo Nation asserts aboriginal rights to Sardis Lake
Patrick B. McGuigan of CapitolBeatOK reports that the Caddo Nation asserts aboriginal, or first-inhabitant, rights to the water in the area around Sardis Lake. Caddo Tribal Chairman Brenda Shemayme Edwards expressed her concern regarding the lawsuit by the Choctaw and Chickasaw asserting claims to Sardis Lake, and asserted that the Caddo Nation is an indispensable party. It is unknown whether the Caddo Nation will assert this position in Court. McGuigan and CapitolBeatOK report further that Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin responded stating that the Caddo Nation "will play an important role" in deliberations on water rights.
